Barbourville, Ky. – The Union Commonwealth University volleyball team hosted Tennessee Wesleyan on Tuesday night. The Bulldogs fell short in the first two sets, but won the final three sets to defeat TWU 3-2 (24-26, 26-28, 25-18, 25-18, 15-9.)
UCU's Raquel Kessler led all players with 28 kills. Kessler finished three kills shy of tying Union's school record, which was registered in 1997 when Stephanie Caito tallied 31. Prior to Tuesday's game, Kessler was recognized for recently surpassing 1,000 career kills as a Bulldog.
Jasmine Porter totaled 11 kills, while Emily Shumaker recorded nine. Yanelis Turbi led UCU in assists with 26, while Maddy McGaughey registered 24.
Nicole Almestica led Union with 18 digs, while McGaughey recorded 15 and Kessler totaled 13. Turbi tallied five assisted blocks, while Kessler tallied two solo blocks and four assisted blocks. Talyn McCaslin registered one solo block and four assisted blocks.
The Bulldogs are now 10-16 (8-8 AAC) this season, while Tennessee Wesleyan is 8-18 (5-11 AAC). Up next for UCU is a home conference game against Kentucky Christian on Saturday, Oct. 26, at 11:00 a.m.
