Union falls at Montreat in four sets

Montreat, NC. – The Union College volleyball team fell short at Montreat in four sets on Saturday.

The first set began with a kill by Union's Lauren Horn, which sparked a 5-0 run for Union.

With a 7-6 lead, a kill by Union's Raquel Kessler began a 7-0 run for the Bulldogs that featured five kills. The Bulldogs won the set 25-18.

The Bulldogs tallied six kills in the second set, while Montreat recorded 16 en route to a 25-16 win of the set for the Cavaliers.

Union led 6-3 in the third set, but Montreat registered a 6-0 run and never lost the lead as the Cavaliers won the set 25-16. Montreat won the fourth set to win the game 3-1 (18-25, 25-16, 25-16, 25-14).

The Bulldogs were led in kills by Kessler with eight; led in digs by Nicole Almestica with 22, which led both teams; and led in assists by Maddy McGaughey with 17.

The Union Bulldogs are now 11-18 (10-10 AAC) this season, while Montreat is 12-10 (9-10 AAC). Senior Night is up next for Union as the Bulldogs will host Johnson on Tuesday, Oct. 31, at 6:30 p.m.
