Union volleyball falls to Bryan

Barbourville, Ky. – The Union College volleyball team fell short on Tuesday night against Bryan. The Lady Lions won in three sets.

The score was tied 9-9 in the opening set, but Bryan would tally a 6-0 run shortly after en route to a 25-17 win of the first set.

Union recorded 11 kills in the second set compared to 10 for Bryan, but the Lady Lions took the second set 25-20. Bryan began the third set with a 10-2 run as the Lady Lions went on to win the game 3-0 (25-17, 25-20, 25-14).

Emily Shumaker led the Bulldogs in kills with seven. Maddy McGaughey and Sarah Charkosky each recorded at least 10 assists for Union as McGaughey led the team with 13. McGaughey and Nicole Almestica each led the team in digs with six.

"Ran into a good team playing well tonight," Union head coach Jeremy Wise said after the game. "We were ready with a good scouting report and opportunity at home, but just never got our execution and finishing plays off."

The Bulldogs are now 11-16 (10-8 AAC) this season, while Bryan is 18-9 (15-4 AAC). Up next for Union is a road conference game at Brenau on Friday, Oct. 27, at 6:30 p.m.
