The Bulldogs win in four sets at Tennessee Wesleyan

Athens, Tenn. – The Union College volleyball team picked up a 3-1 victory on Tuesday night at Tennessee Wesleyan.

"We came out focused to start better and got going; then TWU really started playing hard and pushed us," Jeremy Wise said. "Glad we refocused and stayed with our plan to finish the night out."

The Bulldogs recorded 16 kills in the opening set, and tallied a 5-0 run in the set to give Union a 13-9 lead. Union won the opening set with the final point coming via a kill by senior Raquel Kessler.

Union held a 9-4 lead early in the second set. The Bulldogs tallied 15 kills in the set en route to a 25-20 win to take a 2-0 set lead. TWU won the third set, but Union won the fourth set 25-22.

The Bulldogs recorded a 13-3 run in the fourth set to take a 24-18 lead. The game ended with a kill by Kessler to give Union a 3-1 win (25-20, 25-20, 15-25, 25-22).

Kessler registered 17 kills in the matchup, which lead all players. Emily Shumaker and Jasmine Porter each tallied 10 kills for Union. Maddy McGaughey recorded 22 assists, while Sarah Charkosky tallied 20. Nicole Almestica led Union in digs with 17.

The Bulldogs are now 9-15 (9-7 AAC) this season, while Tennessee Wesleyan is 3-22 (2-15 AAC). Up next for Union is a non-conference matchup at Asbury on Friday, Oct. 20, at 6:00 p.m.
