Union volleyball wins 3-0 over St. Andrews

Barbourville, Ky. – The Union College volleyball team hosted St. Andrews on Friday, Sept. 29. The Bulldogs picked up a 3-0 victory to become 4-0 in home games this season.

The Bulldogs led 17-11 in the first set, but St. Andrews recorded a 7-1 run to make the score 19-18 in favor of Union. The Bulldogs managed to pick up the win in the first set as a kill by Raquel Kessler ended the set. Union won the opening set 25-22.

Union took an 11-4 lead in the second set en route to winning it 25-11, while recording 11 kills. The Bulldogs tallied a 14-5 lead in the third set, and finished the it with an 11-1 run for a 25-7 win in the third set.

The Bulldogs' Raquel Kessler recorded 10 kills, which led the team. Emily Shumaker accounted for seven kills, while Jasmine Porter recorded six.

Kessler tallied four solo blocks, while Michaela Cox recorded three and Maddie Tackett registered one. Maddy McGaughey and Abigail Erby combined to total 27 assists.

"Our team has been working hard lately on the little things, and it's great to see them come together tonight," Union head volleyball coach Jeremy Wise said on Friday night. "It's always an ongoing job, but on the court adjustments and ball control were much improved tonight. Glad we keep our home court advantage going this month."

Following this matchup, the Bulldogs are 6-11 (6-3 AAC), while St. Andrews became 4-8 (3-5 AAC). Up next for the Bulldogs is a road conference game against Bryan on Tuesday, Oct. 3, at 6:30 p.m.
