Pikeville, Ky. – The Union College volleyball team played at Pikeville on Saturday. The Bulldogs fell to Pikeville in three sets.
The first set went back-and-forth until Pikeville closed the set with a 9-2 run to secure a 25-18 win in the set.
The Bulldogs registered 13 kills in the second set, and recorded a 4-0 run late in the set that cut Pikeville's lead to 21-20.
That run featured a kill by Emily Shumaker and Lauren Horn to go along with a service ace for Jessica Rodrigues. Pikeville countered with a 4-1 run to win the set 25-21.
The third set was tied 15-15 before the Bears tallied a 6-1 run. The Bulldogs were able to trim the deficit to two points, but fell 25-21 in the third set. Pikeville won the game 3-0 (25-18, 25-21, 25-21).
Union is now 4-11 (4-3 AAC) this season, while the Bears are 9-3 (3-3 AAC). Up next for Union is a home conference game on Tuesday, Sept. 26, against Bluefield.
