The Bulldogs defeat Columbia (SC) in three sets

Columbia, SC. – The Union College volleyball team played at Columbia (SC) on Saturday. The Bulldogs recorded 41 kills, and picked up a 3-0 victory.

Union registered 16 kills in the opening set, while Columbia recorded seven. The Bulldogs won the opening set 25-21. Union took the second set by 10 points, which was the largest margin of victory out of all three sets.

The Bulldogs won the third set 25-16, while recording 14 kills compared to six for Columbia. The final score was 3-0 (25-21, 25-15, 25-16) in favor of Union.

Raquel Kessler and Emily Shumaker each tallied double digit kills for Union. Kessler led all players with 14, while Shumaker registered 11. Reagan Lippert contributed eight kills for the Bulldogs. Columbia registered 21 kills in the matchup.

Nicole Almestica and Maddy McGaughey combined to record 27 digs for Union. Kessler tallied seven digs. The Bulldogs recorded seven service aces as Lara Gomes De Castro led the team with three.

The Bulldogs are now 3-10 (3-2 AAC) this season, while Columbia is 1-6 (0-4 AAC). Up next for the Bulldogs is a road conference game against Johnson (Tenn.) on Tuesday, Sept. 19., at 6:30 p.m.
