Union falls short in both games on Saturday

Rio Grande, Ohio – The Union College volleyball team dropped both of their games on Saturday in the Emileigh Jo Cooper Memorial Classic.

 

Game One (Point Park):

The Bulldogs won the first two sets with the score of each being 25-18. Union tallied 11 kills in each of the first two sets. Despite the 2-0 lead for the Bulldogs, Point Park rallied for a 3-2 win (18-25, 18-25, 25-22, 25-18, 15-9).

Union's Raquel Kessler led the team in kills with 15, while Emily Shumaker registered 10 and Michaela Cox recorded nine. Nicole Almestica totaled 19 digs; Abigail Erby registered 14 and Lara Gomes De Castro tallied 10.

The Bulldogs fell to 0-7, while Point Park advanced to 1-2.

 

Game Two (Ohio Christian):

This matchup marked the second meeting of the season between these two teams. Ohio Christian defeated Union 3-0 (25-22, 25-20, 25-21) on Aug. 19.

In today's game, Ohio Christian won (25-22, 25-18, 25-22). Shumaker led the Bulldogs in kills with 10, while Almestica tallied a team-leading 12 digs. Union fell to 0-8, while Ohio Christian is now 5-3.

 

Up next for Union is a home conference game against Tennessee Wesleyan on Thursday, Sept. 7, at 6:30 p.m.
