The Bulldogs drop both games on Friday

Rio Grande, Ohio – The Union College volleyball team is participating in the Emileigh Jo Cooper Memorial Classic this weekend. The Bulldogs opened with two games on Friday, and fell short in each matchup.

 

Game One (Rio Grande):

The Bulldogs faced the host school in Union's opening game of the day. Union tallied nine kills in the opening set en route to a 25-22 win in the first set.

The score was tied 12-12 in the opening set when the Bulldogs recorded a 5-0 run. The set's winning point was registered via a kill by Raquel Kessler.

In the second set, the Bulldogs recorded 13 kills. Despite this, Rio Grande won the set 25-20. The third and fourth sets were each won by Rio Grande; with the score of each set being 25-11. The Bulldogs fell short 3-1 in the opening game (25-22, 20-25, 11-25, 11-25).

Union fell to 0-5, while Rio Grande advanced to 2-3.

 

Game Two (Milligan):

In a similar fashion to the first game of the day, the Bulldogs totaled 10 kills in the opening set. However, Milligan recorded 17 en route to a 25-21 win. Milligan went on to win the game 3-0 (25-21, 25-15, 25-19.) Union is now 0-6, while Milligan is 4-2.

For the fifth consecutive game, Kessler led the team in kills. She tallied 10 against Milligan, while recording seven against Rio Grande. Michaela Cox was second on the team in kills in the opening game with six, while Reagan Lippert was second with seven in the second matchup.

Lara Gomes De Castro led the team in digs for the third consecutive game as she tallied 17 in the second matchup of the day, while recording 19 in the first game. In each matchup, Nicole Almestica was second on the team in that category with 10.

 

The Bulldogs will play in two games on Saturday, Sept. 2. Union faces Point Park at noon with a matchup against Ohio Christian slated for 2:00 p.m.
