
UCU’s Laia Garriga Oms named AAC Women’s Tennis Player of the Week
Barbourville, Ky. - Union Commonwealth University's Laia Garriga Oms has been named the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) Women's Tennis Player of the Week. She went 3-0 in both singles play and doubles competition on the week.
In singles play, Garriga Oms defeated Milligan 7-6, 6-2. She won 6-4, 6-7, 10-7 against NCAA Division II opponent Belmont Abbey, while winning 6-1, 6-2 against Montreat. She was slotted at No. 4 against Montreat, while being positioned at No. 5 in the other matches.
In doubles competition, Garriga Oms teamed with Anastasiia Iakovlieva in all three matches. They were slotted at No. 2 against Montreat, while being positioned at No. 3 in the other matches.
The duo won 6-3 against Milligan; 6-0 against NCAA Division II opponent Belmont Abbey; and 6-1 against Montreat.
No. 15 Union went 2-1 on the week. The Bulldogs are now 6-3 on the season.
