The Bulldogs advance to Second Round of NAIA Women’s Tennis National Championship
Mobile, Ala. – The No. 12 seeded Union Commonwealth University women's tennis team won 4-0 on Tuesday against No. 21 McPherson in the First Round of the NAIA Women's Tennis National Championship.
It marked the Bulldogs' first 4-0 victory since defeating Pikeville in the quarterfinals of the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) Tournament.
Doubles:
Taimi Nashiku and Camila Sanchez vs. Liliana Drukerova and Lucy Spice (Union) 3-3 (DNF).
Magdalena Skachova and Beatriz Verdial (Union) defeated Alexandria Garcia and Grace Maxey 6-1.
Anastasiia Iakovlieva and Laia Garriga Oms (Union) defeated Vanessa Hofer and Kayla Ortiz 6-2.
Singles:
Liliana Drukerova (Union) defeated Camila Sanchez 6-1, 6-3.
Magdalena Skachova (Union) vs. Zeynep Barut 3-6, 2-2 (DNF).
Beatriz Verdial (Union) defeated Grace Maxey 6-0, 6-3.
Anastasiia Iakovlieva (Union) vs. Taimi Nashiku 6-1, 4-3 (DNF).
Laia Garriga Oms (Union) defeated Vanessa Hofer 6-1, 6-0.
Alexandra Garcia vs. Lucy Spice (Union) 4-6, 3-2 (DNF).
The Bulldogs are now 17-6 this season, while McPherson is 17-5. Up next for No. 12 Union is a match against No. 5 Middle Georgia State in the Second Round. That matchup is slated for 2:00 p.m.
