No. 2 Union advances to AAC semifinals with win over No. 7 Pikeville

 

Chattanooga, Tenn. – The No. 2 seeded Union Commonwealth University women's tennis team advanced to the AAC semifinals with a 4-0 quarterfinal win over No. 7 Pikeville on Thursday.

The victory marks the sixth consecutive time that the Bulldogs have advanced to the AAC semifinals. The Bulldogs won the doubles point on Thursday, while securing three victories in singles competition.

 

Doubles:

Lucy Spice and Liliana Drukerova (Union) defeated Lilia Jerry and Yazmin Barrios 6-2.

Magdalena Skachova and Beatriz Verdial (Union) vs. Gabriela Guacanes and Nathalia Diaz Casternda 5-2 (DNF).

Laia Garriga Oms and Anastasiia Iakovlieva (Union) defeated Azul Barrios and Genesis Medina 6-2.

 

Singles:

Liliana Drukerova (Union) defeated Gabriela Guacanes 6-2, 6-1.

Magdalena Skachova (Union) vs. Yazmin Barrios 6-7, 6-6 (DNF).

Beatriz Verdial (Union) defeated Lilia Jerry 7-5, 6-2.

Anastasiia Iakovlieva (Union) defeated Sara Contreras 6-2, 6-3.

Laia Garriga Oms (Union) vs. Azul Barrios 6-1, 1-0 (DNF).

Anna Nevada Loendahl Henriksen (Union) vs. Genesis Medina 2-3 (DNF).

 

Union is now 15-5 this season, while Pikeville is 7-8. Up next for the Bulldogs is a semifinal matchup against No. 3 Reinhardt or No. 6 Milligan on Friday, April 12, at 10:00 a.m.
