Union falls 4-2 against Westcliff in national tournament

Mobile, Ala. – A season filled with success for the Union College women's tennis team concluded in the opening round of the national tournament against Westcliff (Calif.)

The 2023 campaign saw the Bulldogs win the AAC Tournament, have three players named All-AAC First Team, win four of the six conference player of the week awards, and rank no worse than No. 16 in each NAIA Coaches' Poll.

As for Tuesday's match, Union won the doubles point, but Westcliff won the matchup 4-2.

 

Doubles:

Rin Igarashi & Karen Kondo (Union) defeated Marielena Muench & Lillian Burth 6-2.

Emilse Ruiz & Neele Menssen defeated Anastasiia Iakovlieva & Maria Arteaga (Union) 6-2.

Liliana Drukerova & Nicole Viljoen (Union) defeated Kanon Sorakubo & Cristina Hurtado 7-5.

 

Singles:

Marielena Muench defeated Karen Kondo (Union) 6-4, 6-4.

Emilse Ruiz defeated Liliana Drukerova (Union) 6-3, 6-1.

Rin Igarashi (Union) vs. Kanon Sorakubo 2-6, 6-3, 0-2 (unfinished).

Alessia Radu defeated Nicole Viljoen (Union) 6-2, 6-3.

Lillian Burth defeated Mai Kitashita (Union) 6-4, 6-2.

Anastasiia Iakovlieva (Union) defeated Neele Menssen 6-0, 6-3.

 

In Abraham Lascari's first season as Union's head coach, the Bulldogs conclude the campaign with a 16-2 record. Their .889 win percentage is the best mark in the history of the program.
