Union women’s swimming and diving freshman Emma Phillips named AAC Freshman of the Year

Kingsport, Tenn. – Union College women swimming and diving freshman Emma Phillips has been named the AAC Freshman of the Year.

During the AAC Championships, Phillips recorded the highest finish for the Bulldogs and outscored every female freshman at the event.

In addition to her first-place finish in the 200-yard individual medley, she secured two second-place finishes in the 100 and 200 yard breaststroke. She also helped the Bulldogs to four second-place relay finishes.

"It was a very impressive weekend for Emma," Union head coach Ryan Winders said. "Our plan and focus for her has always been the National Championship meet, so she came into the weekend with little rest. To break a six-year-old record and earn Freshman of the Year is absolutely outstanding. I am very proud of her hard work and can't wait to see how the season finishes up."

Up next for Emma and the Bulldogs is the NAIA National Championships on Wednesday, March 6.
