Women's soccer drops season finale

BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - Union's women's soccer team said goodbye to four seniors as its season concluded with a 1-0 loss to Columbia College (S.C.) on Saturday.

Seniors Rafaela Oliveira, Rita Pereira, Dara Miguel and Maria Ribeiro were all honored pregame. Oliveria was allowed to start the game, then left to a nice ovation, as injury prevented her from playing.

As for the match, Columbia's Isabella Gurrieri scored off a rebound just 7:33 into the first half, providing the only scoring of the afternoon.

After not recording a shot in the first half, the Bulldogs had their chances in the second, as Yardley Polsen even got a semi-clean look with 10 minutes to play. Unfortunately, her shot was saved, as Union fell to 0-6 in 1-0 games this season.

Union keeper Madison Hebert added to her strong finish to the season, finishing with 11 saves.

Eliminated from AAC Tournament play, Union finishes the season 2-13. The Bulldogs initially had matches scheduled against Kentucky Christian and Alice Lloyd next week, but neither had enough healthy players to field a team.
