Messer Named to All-AAC First Team

BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - Union sophomore Whitney Messer added another honor to her resume as she was named to the All-Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) Women's Golf First Team, the league announced on Monday.

The All-AAC Team has five on the first team and five on the second team. To decide the first and second all-conference players, a weighted formula is used for the overall season and our fall and spring conference rounds. The overall Golfstat adjusted scoring average for each player and weight them at 60 percent and weight the four conference rounds at 40 percent are used to come up with a new adjusted stroke average to determine the first and second teams. The top five scoring averages will receive first-team all-conference and the second five scoring averages will receive second-team all-conference.

Messer paced the Bulldogs once again in 2020-21. The Barbourville native earned two AAC Golfer of the Week awards this season and made the AAC Championship All-Tournament Team, tying for third overall at the event. Messer also earned medalist honors at the Tennessee Wesleyan University Spring Invitational.

This is the first time since 2012 Union placed someone on the first team, and it is the first time since 2013 a Bulldog made the All-AAC Team.
