Montreat, N.C. – The Union Commonwealth University women's basketball team won 78-76 at Montreat on Saturday. Union trailed 24-7 with 0:53 to play in the first quarter. The Bulldogs won the rebounding battle 48-33.
UCU's Madison Brady scored a game-leading 29 points to go with 10 rebounds. It marks the fourth time this season that Brady has scored at least 29 points. Rachel Smith registered 20 points and a game-leading seven assists.
Gracie Jervis tallied 12 points, five rebounds, five assists, a game-leading three steals, and a game-leading two blocks. Claire Belcher scored seven points, while going 3-of-5 from the floor.
McKenzi Himes recorded five points and a game-leading 13 rebounds, which is more than twice as many rebounds as any Montreat player registered in the matchup. Ja'Naia Moran tallied three points and five assists. Sarah Smith also scored for Union.
The Bulldogs are now 9-17 (8-12 AAC) this season, while Montreat is 16-9 (13-7 AAC). Up next for UCU is a home conference game against KCU on Tuesday, Feb. 18, at 5:30 p.m.
