Union overcomes double-digit deficit to defeat Brenau 62-61

Barbourville, Ky. – The Union College women's basketball defeated Brenau 62-61 on Saturday afternoon. The game-winning shot occurred with two seconds remaining when Madison Brady connected on a mid-range shot. The Bulldogs trailed by as many as 13 points in the second half.

"I'm really proud of how we played today," Union head coach Aleka Carr said. "Every player contributed something that helped us get the win. The crowd was phenomenal and brought a ton of energy that we fed off of. Being able to stay composed when it mattered and execute is a testament to the work they put in."

In the second quarter, Brady scored eight of Union's 11 points. The Bulldogs trailed 31-24 at halftime. Brady and Madison Cox each tallied five points in the third quarter, but Union trailed 48-40 entering the fourth.

The Bulldogs began the fourth with an 8-0 run to tie the game 48-48. The Golden Tigers countered with a 4-0 run, but Union responded with a 5-0 run to take the lead.

With just over a minute to go, the score was tied 58-58 when a layup by Moran gave the Bulldogs a 60-58 lead with 1:06 remaining.

With 20 seconds to play, Brenau took a 61-60 lead. Brady's shot with two seconds to play gave Union its first victory of the season via the 62-61 win.

Brady led all scorers with 20 points to go along with eight rebounds. Madison Cox was Union's second-leading scorer with 14 points.

McKenzi Himes tallied seven points, while Moran registered six and Morgan Blakley recorded five. Ciara Uphoff, Haley Brock, Natalie Johnson, and Emily Whitson also scored for Union.

The Bulldogs won the rebounding battle 41-33 with Moran leading all players with 10.

The Bulldogs are now 1-10 (1-6 AAC), while Brenau is 2-5 (1-4 AAC). Up next for Union is a home conference game against Tennessee Wesleyan on Wednesday, Dec. 6, at 5:30 p.m.
