Shots don't fall as women's basketball falls to Johnson

BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - After achieveing record-tying success from 3-point range in a previous matchup with Johnson, the Union women's basketball team couldn't duplicate that success in a rematch, falling to the Royans 67-58 in an Appalachian Athletic Conference matchup Wednesday night.

In a 78-74 win over Johnson on Nov. 8, the Bulldogs connected on 16-of-34 3-point tries, with Madison Cox even tying a single-game school record with eight made 3s. That success proved difficult to duplicate Wednesday, as the Bulldogs were only able to make 7-of-32 from behind the arc.

Instead, it was the Royals who did damage from distance, shooting 8-of-14 from 3 in the first half, including makes on three consecutive possessions during a 15-0 run that gave them a 39-28 lead at halftime.

Union attempted to make a game of it, even getting as close as 53-46 on a LeAsia Linton jumper just over a minute into the fourth quarter. But that would be as tight as it would get.

Linton, Cox and Raigan King all had 12 points to lead the Union offense. Linton had a game-high seven rebounds, while Haley Brock led all players with seven assists for the Buldogs, who fell to 3-14 overall and 3-10 in the AAC.

Union is back home Saturday for a 2 p.m. AAC tilt against Bluefield.
