WALESKA, Ga. - Third-quarter struggles continued to doom the Union women's basketball team, as Appalachian Athletic Conference leader Reinhardt closed the third on a 13-0 run to pull away for a 78-49 win in league play Thursday.
For more than two quarters, the Bulldog (2-13, 2-9), went blow for blow with an Eagle team that entered the night a perfect 12-0 in the AAC. They trailed just 30-26 at halftime and got within 44-37 on a LeAsia Linton layup with 4:23 left in the third period.
But Julia Craft, one of four Eagle players to score in double figures, answered with a 3-pointer on the ensuing possession, kick-starting a 34-12 Reinhardt run to finish out the game.
The Bulldogs had three players in double figures, led by McKenzi Himes' 12 points. Linton added 11 while Gracie Jervis scored 10 while also recording a team-best five rebounds and two steals.
Hoping for better results, the Bulldogs return home Saturday to face Columbia College at 2 p.m.
