Alice Lloyd races past women's basketball in second half

PIPPA PASSES. Ky. - The best first half of the Union women's basketball team's season gave way to a brutal second half, resulting in an 82-65 loss to Alice Lloyd on Friday.

Everything was coming up Bulldogs in the first 20 minutes. McKenzi Himes and Gracie Jervis both scored 11 points and were a combined 8-of-8 from the floor, as Union took a 42-33 lead into halftime. The 42 points are the most the Bulldogs have scored in a first half this season.

But the momentum quickly shifted in the second half, as the Eagles opened things up with an 11-0 run, holding the Bulldogs scoreless for the opening 6:09 of the third quarter.

Things got even worse in the fourth, as Alice Lloyd opened with a 12-1 run, going on to shoot a blistering 13-of-17 (76 percent) from the field. Hannah Kash scored 12 of her game-high 33 points in the final period, giving the Eagles their first ever win in 14 tries against the Bulldogs.

Himes still put together a great performance in defeat, finishing with 21 points on 9-of-13 shooting. LeAsia Linton added 15 points and a game-high eight assists while Jervis scored 13.

Union is back at home for a 1 p.m. Appalachian Athletic Conference meeting with St. Andrews Tuesday. On Friday, it was announced the game would be moved up from its original tip time of 5:30 p.m.
