CIU overwhelms Bulldog women's basketball team

COLUMBIA, S.C. - Columbia International opened up a 27-7 lead after one quarter and never relinquished control in a dominant 81-62 win over Union in Appalachian Athletic Conference women's basketball play Wednesday night.

Turnover-filled first quarters have been an unfortunate staple for the Bulldogs this season, and such problems continued Wednesday night, as the Rams took the ball away nine times in the opening period.

CIU, which had five players score in double-figures, also had a monstrous edge on the glass, out-rebounding Union 54-26.

The Bulldogs, who held a 23-14 edge in the fourth quarter, also had three double-figure scorers in Raigan King (17), McKenzi Himes (14) and Gracie Jervis. Ciara Uphoff had her best scoring output of the season as well, finishing with nine points on 3-of-5 from 3-point range

Union (2-10, 2-7) has one game remaining before heading into its holiday break, as the Bulldogs will host Tennessee Wesleyan at 2 p.m. Saturday.
