Late comeback not enough as women's basketball falls to Bryan

BARBOURVILLE, Ky- The Union college woman's basketball team faced off against Bryan College at home Wednesday in a what proved a tumultuous game. A spirited comeback towards the end of the game wasn't enough, with Bryan coming out on top 76-65.

The first half started off neck-and-neck with both teams continually tying on the scoreboard. Glimmers of hope shone through with McKenzi Himes standing out with four layups and a free throw earning nine points. Madison Cox also made two 3-pointers within just 13 seconds of each other. But in the last five minutes Bryan took control making several 3's and out-scoring Union 21-9 in the second quarter to take a nine-point halftime lead.

The second half started off the Bulldogs taking back some momentum awith multiple layups by Himes. But Bryan stuck to its guns, continually turning defense into offense, leading them to a whooping 26-point lead with 4.29 mins left with a layup by standout Destiny Kasner.

But towards the end of the game, the Bulldogs showed heart coming back. Himes kicked off the comeback with two made free throws getting the score to 75-51. A jumper by Morgan Blakley was followed by a layup and three made free throws by Himes. Ciara Uphoff and Cox then made consecutive 3s to continue the Bulldogs' roll.

But it proved too late as time ran out and Bryan took the victory 76-65 at the final buzzer, dropping Union to 2-8 overall and 2-5 in conference play.

Himez continued her recent strong run by scoring 21 points, while LeAsia Linton had 13 points and a game-high eight rebounds.
