Bad 1st quarter dooms WBB at The Show

KINGSPORT, Tenn. - A 21-10 deficit at the end of the first quarter was too much for the Union women's basketball team to overcome Friday, as the Bulldogs fell 62-51 to Washington Adventist (Md.) in the first game of The Show Tournament.

The Bulldog offense was sloppy from the start, committing nine of its 23 turnovers in the opening 10 minutes and eventually falling behind by as many as 17 in the third quarter.

The Bulldogs did eventually make a game of it, even getting as close as 50-45 on a Madison Cox 3-pointer with 7:20 to play, only for Adventist to answer with a 9-1 run to put the game away.

McKenzi Himes and Cox formed a good inside-outside, 1-2 punch to lead the Union offense. Himes had 16 points and was 8-of-12 from the foul line, while Cox finished with 12 points, hitting 4-of-8 from 3-point range.

The Bulldogs (2-6), won't have much time to rest, as they are back in Kingsport at 7:45 p.m. tomorrow, facing off with West Virginia Tech on day two of tournament play.
