Grayson, Ky. – The Union Commonwealth University softball team played at KCU on Saturday in a doubleheader. The Bulldogs won the first game, but fell short in the second.
Game One:
The Bulldogs won 11-8 in seven innings. UCU scored three runs in the second inning to go with six runs in the third inning. Tori Turner and Ryleigh Petrey each tallied three hits in the matchup, which led all players.
Megan Merritt and Briley Robbins each registered two hits, while four Bulldogs tallied one hit. Katie Fister, Ryleigh McLeskey, and Petrey were three of six players tied for the most RBIs in the game with two.
Merritt, Turner, Fister, and Robbins were four of seven players tied for the most runs scored in the matchup with two. Fister and Jeweleyette Lilley each pitched in the game for UCU. Fister allowed four earned runs in 3.0 innings pitched, while Lilley allowed the same in 4.0 innings.
Game Two:
Union led 2-0 after the top of the first inning. Merritt scored off an RBI single by Turner, while McGinley would score off an RBI single by McLeskey.
UCU went on to fall short 10-2 in five innings. Turner and Megan McGinley each tallied a team-leading two hits in the matchup.
Taylor Sain and Carly Cain each pitched in the matchup for Union. Sain pitched 1.0 innings, while Cain allowed two earned runs in 3.2 innings pitched.
UCU has won three of its past four games dating back to the doubleheader sweep at St. Andrews on Sunday, April 6.
The Bulldogs are now 8-22 (6-14 AAC) this season, while KCU is 16-22 (9-15 AAC). UCU will host Tennessee Wesleyan in a home conference doubleheader on Monday, April 14, beginning at 2:00 p.m.
