Barbourville, Ky. - The Union Commonwealth University softball team hosted Columbia on Sunday in a doubleheader. UCU fell short in each matchup.
Game One:
The Bulldogs fell short 9-3 in seven innings. Megan Merritt and Shaylin Lewis each led UCU in hits with two. Kaley Harris, Megan McGinley, and Jeweleyette Lilley each tallied one hit.
Katie Fister and Jeweleyette Lilley each pitched for UCU. Fister allowed eight hits and five earned runs in 3.1 innings pitched, while recording two strikeouts. Lilley allowed six hits and two earned runs in 3.2 innings pitched, while registering two strikeouts.
Game Two:
UCU fell short 7-4 in seven innings. Harris led Union in hits with two. Merritt, Lewis, Ryleigh McLeskey, and Abby Gilbert each tallied one hit.
Lily Marsh and Taylor Sain each pitched in the matchup for UCU. Marsh allowed five earned runs, while registering five strikeouts in 3.1 innings pitched. Sain allowed one earned run in 3.2 innings pitched.
The Bulldogs are now 5-15 (3-9 AAC) this season, while Columbia is 15-17 (10-8 AAC). Up next for UCU is a road doubleheader against No. 4 Cumberlands on Wednesday, March 26, beginning at 4:00 p.m.
