The Bulldogs fall in doubleheader against No. 22 Reinhardt

Barbourville, Ky. – The Union Commonwealth University softball team fell short in Wednesday's home doubleheader against No. 22 Reinhardt. It was the final series of the regular season for each team.

 

Game One:

Reinhardt led 5-0 after the top of the second inning. In the bottom of the inning, Taylor Whisonant recorded a double on the opening at bat of the side. Following a fly out and a ground out, Kaley Harris tallied an RBI double that scored Whisonant.

After the top of the fourth inning, Union trailed by 11 runs. In the bottom of the fourth, Kayla Keller tallied a triple with two outs, but Union was unable to score. The Eagles went on to win the game 12-1 in five innings. Leea Cole and Kerry Dixon each pitched in the matchup for Union.

 

Game Two:

The Eagles scored three runs in the top of the first inning. Keller recorded a single with one out in the bottom of the first inning. On the next at bat, Lowe registered a single. That was followed by an RBI single by Whisonant, which scored Keller and advanced Lowe to second.

After the top of the third inning, Reinhardt led 8-1. Keller scored in the bottom of the inning off an RBI fielder's choice by Katie Fister.

The lead was trimmed in the bottom of the fourth when Ryleigh Petrey scored off an error. Union trailed 8-3 after four innings.

Reinhardt tallied three runs in the top of the fifth, while Lowe recorded a solo home run in the bottom of the inning. It marked Lowe's 10th homer of the season, which extends the school record to double digits. The Eagles won the matchup 17-4 in six innings.

Carly Cain pitched 5.2 innings for the Bulldogs, while Fister pitched 0.1 innings. Keller, Lowe, Whisonant, Petrey, and McGinley each tallied a team-leading two hits.

 

The Bulldogs are now 15-24 (13-15 AAC) this season, while Reinhardt is 38-8 (27-1 AAC).
