The Bulldogs fall to Campbellsville in doubleheader

Barbourville, Ky. – The Union Commonwealth University softball team fell short to Campbellsville in a doubleheader on Tuesday. Prior to the doubleheader, Union recognized head coach Renee Hicks on securing her 600th career win earlier this season.

 

Game One:

Leea Cole and Taylor Whisonant each recorded singles in the bottom of the first inning to put runners at first and third. However, a ground out ended the side.

Campbellsville scored one run in the third inning to go with two runs in the fifth inning to lead 3-0 entering the bottom of the seventh. Union's Kayla Keller connected on a two-run homer with two outs, but a strike out ended the game.

Campbellsville won 3-2 in seven innings. Leea Cole and Kerry Dixon each pitched in the game for Union. Taylor Whisonant registered three hits in the matchup, which was tied for the most by any player in the matchup.

 

Game Two:

Campbellsville led 8-0 entering the bottom of the fourth inning. In the side, Cole tallied a single on the first at bat. Following a fielder's choice that put Kayla Richardson on first, Sarah Lowe recorded a single as well. The following two at bats resulted in outs, which ended the side.

The final score was 8-0 as Campbellsville won in five innings. Carly Cain, Dixon, and Jeweleyette Lilley each pitched in the matchup for Union.

 

The Bulldogs are now 11-22 this season, while Campbellsville is 20-12. Up next for Union is a road conference doubleheader against Montreat on Friday, April 19, beginning at 5:00 p.m.
