Union falls short in doubleheader at Lindsey Wilson

Columbia, Ky. – The Union College softball team fell short in a two-game series at Lindsey Wilson on Friday. The Bulldogs fell 5-4 in the first game, while coming up short 8-0 in five innings in the second matchup.

 

Game One:

Sarah Lowe connected on a two-run homer in the top of the third inning that scored Ryleigh Petrey. The score was tied 2-2 going into the bottom of the third inning.

Union would take the lead in the top of the fifth inning when an RBI ground out by Kinsley Redmon scored Megan Merritt. On the ensuing at bat, an RBI single by Taylor Whisonant scored Lowe.

The Bulldogs led 4-2 going into the bottom of the fifth, but Lindsey Wilson outscored Union 3-0 throughout the remainder of the matchup to get the 5-4 win.

Whisonant led all players in hits with three, while Lowe tallied two. Lowe was tied for the most RBIs by any player in the matchup two. Kerry Dixon pitched the entire game for the Bulldogs.

 

Game Two:

Union was held scoreless in the second matchup. Lindsey Wilson tallied 10 hits and eight runs in the game, which included three runs in the first inning.

Lindsey Wilson won the matchup 8-0 in five innings. Merritt and Carly Cain each pitched in the game for Union.

 

The Bulldogs are now 2-4 this season, while Lindsey Wilson is 3-3. Up next for Union is a doubleheader at No. 3 Cumberlands on Tuesday, Feb. 27, at 3:00 and 5:00 p.m.
