Union softball falls short at Tennessee Wesleyan

Athens, Tenn. - The Union College softball team dropped both of Monday's matchups at Tennessee Wesleyan. Union allowed 12 runs in the doubleheader, but a lack of offense led to the sweep. Megan Merritt pitched the first game for Union, while Elly Souther pitched the second.

Game One:

Union registered four hits in the matchup, which included a double by Onnica Nichols, but the Bulldogs were unable to score.

Tennessee Wesleyan tallied four runs in the bottom of the first inning en route to a 5-0 win in seven innings. Despite recording 13 hits, all five of Tennessee Wesleyan's runs were unearned.

Game Two:

The second game was scoreless through the top of the third inning, but Tennessee Wesleyan would take the lead in the bottom of the inning with two runs.

Tennessee Wesleyan added to its lead with two runs in the fourth inning to go with three in the sixth.

Union's first run of the series occurred when an RBI single by Megan McGinley scored Ariel Dailey in the top of the seventh inning. Tennessee Wesleyan won 7-1 in seven innings.

The Union College Bulldogs are now 9-24 (8-16 AAC) this season, while Tennessee Wesleyan is 20-9 (16-4 AAC).

Up next for Union is a home doubleheader against No. 23 Campbellsville on Wednesday, April 12.
