Union splits doubleheader against Montreat

Barbourville, Ky – The Union College softball team won one game in Sunday's doubleheader against Montreat, while going to extra innings in the other.

Game 1:

Union trailed 3-0 in the middle of the third inning. In the bottom of the inning, an RBI single by Selina Tavarez scored Shelby Easton. Later in the side, a two-RBI single by Kaylee Stuckey allowed Tavarez and Onnica Nichols to score. Going into the fourth inning, the score was tied.

The game was sent into extra innings when the score was tied 4-4 at the end of the seventh. In the top of the eighth inning, Montreat recorded two runs en route to a 6-4 win.

Game 2:

The Bulldogs were very productive offensively in the second matchup of the day, while holding Montreat to just one run. Union led 7-1 at the end of the fourth inning, and went on to win the game 10-1 in six innings.

A two-run home run by Summer Rains in the bottom of the sixth inning ended the matchup. The Bulldogs recorded 10 hits in the game, which included three doubles and one triple to go along with the home run. Union held Montreat to three hits.

The Bulldogs are now 5-8 (4-2 AAC) this season, while Montreat is now 5-10 (1-3 AAC). Union hosts Milligan in a two-game series on Monday.
