Union splits doubleheader at CIU

COLUMBIA, S.C. - The Union College softball team played at Columbia International University today in a doubleheader. The Bulldogs won the opening game 3-2 before falling in the second matchup 7-4.

Game One:

Union trailed 2-0 after five innings of play. In the top of the sixth inning, Union's offense took control. After Ariel Dailey was walked in the first at bat of the inning, Sarah Lowe tallied a double. With two runners in scoring position, an RBI single by Megan Merritt scored Dailey.

After an out on the next at bat, an RBI ground out by Kaylee Stuckey tied the game 2-2. The Bulldogs took the lead on the following at bat with an RBI single by Selina Tavarez. Union led by one run in the middle of the sixth inning.

The Bulldogs did not allow a hit throughout the remainder of the game as Union won 3-2 in seven innings.

Game Two:

In the top of the first inning, Union had the bases loaded with no outs. On the ensuing at bat, Dailey reached first base via an error, which allowed Megan McGinley to score.

Lowe was walked on the next at bat, which scored Maycee Limbaugh. Merritt would score on the ensuing at bat off an RBI single by Taylor Whisonant. At the end of the first inning, the Bulldogs led 3-0.

With Union leading 3-2 In the top of the fourth inning, an RBI single by Dailey scored Tavarez. CIU went on to score a total of five runs in the fifth and sixth innings en route to a 7-4 win in seven innings.

The Bulldogs are now 2-7 this season, while Columbia International University is 6-6.

Union will host Columbia in the Bulldogs' next doubleheader, which is slated for March 1.
