Softball Drops Twinbill to No. 23 Lindsey Wilson

BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - It was a tough day at the ballyard for Union College softball as visiting and No. 23 Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) swept a doubleheader on Tuesday, winning 6-0 and 16-3.

The losses put the Bulldogs at 0-4 on the young season, while the Blue Raiders are 4-2 overall.

GAME 1 - LINDSEY WILSON 6, UNION 0

Errors proved costly as Lindsey Wilson capitalized on the opportunities in recording the win. Three Bulldog errors resulted in three unearned runs.

The Blue Raiders scored twice in the first before tacking on three in the third. Lindsey Wilson added a run in the fourth for a 6-0 advantage.

Union's best scoring chance came in the seventh when Ariel Dailey doubled and Paige Oldham singled to put runners on the corners with two outs. However, a fielder's choice squashed the chance, making the final 6-0.

GAME 2 - LINDSEY WILSON 16, UNION 3

The twinbill finale got off to a good start for the Bulldogs. After surrendering a run in the top of the first, Sarah Lowe blasted a three-run bomb to center field to give Union a 3-1 lead.

Lindsey Wilson, though, came back with three runs in the third to claim a 4-3 lead. The Blue Raiders then put together back-to-back, six-run rallies in the fifth and sixth to complete the scoring.

Union lined six hits in the game, but four came in the first inning.

BULLDOG NOTES

  • Ariel Dailey was back to her old tricks, lining two extra-base hits - a double and a triple.
  • Lowe went 2-for-3 in the second game and was 2-for-4 on the day.
  • The home run was Lowe's first of the season and seventh of her Bulldog career.
