Union men’s outdoor track and field weekend recap

Barbourville, Ky. - The Union Commonwealth University men's outdoor track and field team recently competed at the Asbury Invitational and the Gordon Bocock Cumberlands Invitational.

Asbury Invitational

The Bulldogs tied for fourth overall with 16 team points.

Tim Freeman led the way with a first-place finish in the pole vault, clearing 3.15 meters. Valor Pennington also placed in the event, taking third with a mark of 2.75 meters.

In the high jump, Tyler Sturgil earned second place with a 1.75-meter jump. Jay Ateeb claimed first in the triple jump, recording a mark of 12.39 meters.

Pennington placed third in the long jump with a 5.36-meter effort, while Freeman recorded a 2.97-meter jump. Pennington also threw 23.30 meters in the discus.

Andon Mashburn finished fifth in the shot put with a throw of 12.64 meters and added a 33.41-meter mark in the hammer throw.

In the 110m hurdles, Pennington and Freeman finished third and fourth, respectively. Pennington clocked in at 20.51, while Freeman followed at 26.48.

Isaiah Spears and Preston Frost went back-to-back in the 400m dash. Spears took fourth with a time of 53.61, and Frost was fifth in 54.53.

Zabrey Bortz ran a 2:08.67 in the 800m. In the 200m dash, Kamese Higgins clocked a 24.54, while Spears followed with a 25.00.

Gordon Bocock Cumberlands Invitational

In the 100-meter dash, Teddy Stills placed sixth with a time of 10.84, while Tim Freeman clocked in at 13.66.

In the 3000-meter steeplechase, Zabrey Bortz finished fourth with a time of 10:40.07, followed closely by Conner Partin in fifth at 10:47.29.

 

Next for the Bulldogs is the AAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Thursday, April 17.
