
Union men’s outdoor track and field places third at EKU Spring Meet
Richmond, Ky. - The Union Commonwealth University men's outdoor track and field team delivered a strong performance at the EKU Spring Meet, securing a third-place finish with a total score of 68 points. The Bulldogs competed against a mix of NCAA and NAIA programs.
Track Events
Teddy Stills led the Bulldogs with two first-place finishes, winning the 100m in 10.76 seconds and the 200m in 22.68 seconds.
Garomme Hanna, Kamese Higgins, Santana Smith, Valor Pennington, Ethan Combs, and Tim Freeman also competed in the 100m, while Higgins also ran the 200m.
Isaiah Spears clocked 53.67 in the 400m, and Preston Frost took second in the 400m hurdles with a time of 58.67.
In the 800m, Zabrey Bortz finished in 2:09.67, and Torrean Thornton ran 2:14.63. Bortz also ran 4:28.47 in the 1500m.
Jackson Crume (9:54.68), Conner Partin (10:07.12), and Noah Hale (11:29.70) competed in the 3000m.
The 4x100m relay team of Tyler Sturgil, Spears, Combs, and Malichai Miller placed second with a time of 44.84.
Field Events
Jay Ateeb led the Bulldogs in the field events, earning a runner-up finish in the triple jump with a mark of 13.25m. He also placed fourth in the long jump, reaching 5.89m.
In the throws, Cedric Irvin, John Law, Jacob Bryd, Keenan Uhles, and Valor Pennington competed in the discus, with Irwin leading the group with a throw of 37.65m.
Andon Mashburn, Byrd, and Uhles competed in the hammer throw, where Mashburn recorded a mark of 34.24m, Bryd threw 30.54m, and Uhles finished with 18.81m.
In the high jump, Valor Pennington and Sturgil finished back-to-back, with Pennington clearing 1.80m for second place and Sturgil taking third at 1.70m.
Garomme Hanna placed fourth in the javelin with a throw of 43.36m. Meanwhile, Mashburn, Ateeb, Byrd, Uhles, and Tim Freeman all competed in the shot put.
