Ellison finishes first in high jump for the third weekend in a row

Williamsburg, Ky. - The Union Commonwealth University men's track and field team competed in the Gordon Bocock Cumberlands Invitational and Distance Carnival on Friday and Saturday.

 

Friday Events:

Conner Partin placed third in the 3000-meter steeplechase with a final time of 11:20.25. Alex Garcia ran in the 1500-meter race. He placed seventh with a time of 4:31.14. Gianna Loska placed fifth in the 5000-meter run with a final time of 16:48.63.

Chandler Mills tallied a final time of 29:33.94 in the 5000-meter race walk, which placed him in eighth place. With this time, he has broken his own Union record. He previously set this record in 2023 with a time of 29.40.

Garomme Hanna placed third in the javelin throw with a mark of 45.38m. Mark Prewitt also competed in the javelin throw, and placed 11th with a mark of 32.42m.

In the first event of the decathlon, Joey Holloway placed sixth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.35. The second event was the long jump where he placed fifth with a mark of 5.46m.

In the shot put, Holloway placed fourth with a mark of 9.79m. High jump was the fourth event, and he recorded a mark of 1.60m to place him in fourth place. The 400-meter dash was the fifth event. He placed fourth with a time of 1:06.29.

 

Saturday Events:

Payton Ellison placed first in the high jump for the third weekend in a row. He set a season-high mark of 2.00m.

Chris Thomas placed eighth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.19. He placed 10th in the 200-meter dash by recording a time of 22.90.

Hanna placed 12th in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.48. He also competed in the 200-meter dash, and placed 15th with a time of 24.37. 

Preston Frost recorded a time of 56.52 in the 400-meter hurdles to place him in second place. Holloway continued the decathlon starting with the sixth event, which was the 110-meter hurdles.

He placed fourth with a time of 23.34. He recorded a first-place finish in the seventh event, which was the discus throw. He recorded a mark of 34.84m.

Pole vault was the eighth event. He placed fourth with a mark of 2.45m. He also placed fourth in the ninth event, which was the javelin throw. He recorded a mark of 29.30m. Holloway had an overall mark of 3432 in the decathlon.
