Union men’s track and field competes in Mountaineer Open

Berea, Ky. - The Union Commonwealth University men's track and field team competed in the Mountaineer Open on Saturday.

Payton Ellison led the way for the Bulldogs by getting a first-place finish in the high jump with a mark of 1.97m. Tyler Sturgil followed by placing second with a mark of 1.75m in the high jump.

Joey Holloway placed fourth in the long jump as he recorded a mark of 5.79m. Garomme Hanna led the way in the javelin throw by placing second with a mark of 47.68m.

Mark Prewitt followed with a mark of 37.22m for a fifth-place finish. Travis Hensley then placed 12th with a mark of 23.33m.

In shot put, Holloway placed sixth with a mark of 9.63m. Lucas Gibson followed with a mark of 9.18m to place him at No. 9. Hensley then placed 12th with a mark of 7.93m.

Holloway placed fifth in the discus throw with a mark of 33.62m. Gibson recorded a mark of 25.70m to put him in seventh place.

Alex Garcia, Melanie Partin, Erin Pease, and Hunter Wethington competed in the mixed 4x400-meter relay. They placed fifth with a time of 4:11.58.

Conner Partin placed first in 3000-meter steeplechase with a time of 11:54.38. In the 200-meter dash, Hanna placed seventh with a time of 24.31. 

Preston Frost placed third in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 57.29. In the 100-meter dash, Hanna led the way by placing ninth with a time of 11.99. Ellison placed 12th as he recorded a time of 12.40.

Jeremiah Bailey and Quindarius Carter placed 14th and 15th respectively as they recorded times of 12.51 and 12.52. Garcia also competed in the 400-meter dash. He placed third with a time of 54.10.
