Union records 11 first-place finishes in victory over Piedmont

Barbourville, Ky. - Union men's swimming and diving hosted Piedmont University on Monday. The Bulldogs secured first-place with a total score of 138 points. Their performance included 11 first-place finishes and the breaking of one school record.

In the first event of the day, the 200-yard medley relay team of Zsombor Sipaki, Dmitrii Bulakh, Gabriel Icobescu, and Jaedon Lynch secured first place with a final time of 1:37.68.

Following this, Bulakh and Icobescu demonstrated their excellence by each achieving first place twice, while Lynch and Sipaki claimed first place once each in separate events.

Will Webb continued the team's success by clinching the top spot in the 100-yard IM, where he broke a school record with an impressive time of 57.70. This record surpassed the previous mark set by Zach Nepogoda in 2023 at 1:03.00.

Concluding the day's events, Nepogoda secured two first-place finishes. Cezary Leimann added one more to further contributing to the team's overall success.

Up next for Union is a meet at Centre in Danville, Ky., on Saturday, Jan. 13.
