Opening weekend recap for Union men’s swimming & diving

Barbourville, Ky. – The Union College men's swimming and diving team opened the 2023-24 season by hosting Cumberlands on Oct. 13 and Milligan on Oct. 14.

 

Against Cumberlands:

In the Men's 200 Yard Freestyle, Union's Zach Nepogoda placed first out of seven with a final time of 1:47.84. Nepogoda also placed first in the Men's 500 Yard Freestyle with a final time of 4:54.25.

Union's Dmitrii Bulakh placed first out of eight in the Men's 100 Yard Breaststroke with a final time of 59.43. The Bulldogs' Gabriel Icobescu placed second out of eight in the Men's 100 Yard Freestyle with a final time of 47.51.

Icobescu placed third out of seven in the Men's 50 Yard Freestyle with a time of 21.82. Union's Zsombor Sipaki placed second out of five in the Men's 100 Yard Backstroke with a time of 54.28. The Bulldogs fell 152.5-55.5.

 

Against Milligan:

Sipaki placed first out of five in the Men's 100 Yard Backstroke with a final time of 53.82. Union's Mikita Filipovich placed third in that event with a final time of 57.09. Sipaki also placed first out of five in the Men's 50 Yard Backstroke with a final time of 24.92.

Nepogoda placed second out of four in the Men's 1000 Yard Freestyle with a final time of 10:15.23. Nepogoda placed second out of five in the Men's 100 Yard Freestyle with a final time of 50.71.

Icobescu placed second out of seven in the Men's 200 Yard Freestyle with a final time of 1:45.73. Icobescu placed third out of six in the Men's 100 Yard Butterfly with a final time of 53.85.

Bulakh placed second out of sixth in the Men's 50 Yard Breaststroke with a final time of 28.18, while Luke Colebank placed third in the event with a final time of 28.20. Union's Jaedon Lynch recorded a final time of 2:07.00 in the Men's 200 Yard IM, which placed third out of five. The Bulldogs fell 187-72.
