Swim teams compete at AAC Championships
KINGSPORT, Tenn. - A string of top-five finishes by Zach Nepogoda was highlighted the Union men's and women's swim teams' trip to the three-day Appalachian Athletic Conference Championships, which wrapped, who wrapped Saturday.
The Bulldog men placed fourth in the six-team field with 291 points, while the women were fifth with 89. Milligan won going away, scoring 1,034 points in men's competition and 1,057 in women's.
Nepogoda's top finish was a third-place showing in Saturday's 1,650 meter freestyle, which he finished in 16:39.02. He also placed fourth in Thursday's 500 free (4:44.43) and fifth in the 200 butterfly (1:57.85) Saturday.
Nepogoda also teamed with Will Webb, Dmitri Bulakh and Adil Adilgereyev for five fourth-place finishes in relay events.
On Thursday, they finished the 200 medley in 1:38.79 and the 800 freestyle in 7:40.51. Friday saw a swim of 1:31.39 in the 200 free and 3:44.68 in the 400 medley. On Saturday, the quartet wrapped things up with a 3:24.12 finish in the 400 free.
Adilgereyev also had two individual fifth-place freestyle finishes. He swam a 1:45.55 in Friday's 200 and a 48.13 in Saturday's 100.
Top finishers on the women's side were Maria Riberio, who took sixth in the 1,650 free (32:49.65) and Maggie Heinrich, who was seventh in 3:11.76 in the 200 breaststroke.
