Major: Exercise Science

Shane Van Den Aardweg is an Exercise Science major who values the peaceful atmosphere at Union Commonwealth University—an ideal setting where he can focus on both academics and nature. His dream is to work in any area of sports, whether it’s coaching, teaching, or on the business side, combining passion with purpose.

A lover of the simple things in life, Shane enjoys going on walks in his downtime. His favorite subject in high school was History, and his soccer icon is the tough and fearless Nemanja Vidic. You’ll often find him hydrating with water or Powerade, snacking on nuts and sour sweets during road trips, and digging into his favorite meal—a bacon cheeseburger. His go-to social media platform is TikTok, and he shares his home with four dogs, a cat, and a parrot.

Shane sees himself as the type of teammate who always gives 100%, no matter the situation. He takes pride in being dependable and helpful both on and off the field. He hopes to be remembered for how he supports his family and uplifts those around him. At Union, Coach Shaw, Coach Trey, and Coach Felix have had a lasting, positive impact on him. When he's not on the pitch, Shane also enjoys playing swimming and cricket as his second-best sports.
