No. 17 Union defeats Montreat as Bulldogs remain undefeated

Barbourville, Ky. – No. 17 Union men's soccer remains undefeated following its 6-2 victory over Montreat on Wednesday night.

The Bulldogs' Callum Edwards scored the opening goal in the fourth minute. During the 23rd minute, Montreat's Zeljko Stanojevic tied the score at 1-1.

In the second half, Union extended its lead to 3-1 as Biel Vallverdu and Asuka Kaneda each scored a goal. Montreat trimmed the lead with a goal by Miodrag Bankovic.

The Bulldogs countered with three straight goals as Edwards, Callum Longworth, and Tyler Wheatcroft accounted for the 3-0 run. Edwards has tallied 16 goals on the season, which ranks second in the NAIA.

Longworth, Vallverdu, Kaneda, William Fox, and Harrison Clayden each registered an assist in the matchup. Kaneda is second in the conference in assists with eight, while Longworth is third with seven and Vallverdu is tied for fourth with six.

The Bulldogs are now 10-0 (6-0 AAC) this season, while Montreat is 4-6-1 (3-3 AAC). The next game for Union is a road conference matchup against Columbia on Saturday, Oct. 7, at 11:00 a.m.
