Union opens the regular season with a 3-2 win at Cumberlands

Williamsburg, Ky. – The Union Bulldogs picked up an impressive 3-2 victory at Cumberlands on Saturday in each team's regular season opener. The Bulldogs showed determination in the second half by overcoming two deficits en route to victory.

"What a way to start the season," Union head coach Jonathan Shaw said. "Falling behind twice and ending up winning shows a lot of character about this team."

Trailing 1-0 in the second half, Union tied the game with a goal by Biel Vallverdu. The goal by Vallverdu sparked an action-packed 11-minute stretch that featured a total of four goals.

The Patriots countered with a goal of their own just over two minutes later, but the Bulldogs would soon be in the lead. Union's Callum Edwards scored two goals in the next nine minutes to give the Bulldogs a 3-2 victory.

"It's great to beat our local rivals, but we have a long way ahead of us and need to keep building and moving in the right direction as a team," Shaw said.

Union is now 1-0 on the season, while Cumberlands is 0-1. Up next for the Bulldogs is a home game against Georgetown on Aug. 30 at 7:00 p.m.
