Thomas secures top-10 finish in women's golf opener

RICHMOND, Ky. - A weekend of consistent play produced a top-10 finish for Kiara Thomas.

The Union senior shot a 36-over-par score of 180 to take ninth place at the Alice Lloyd College Women's Spring Golf Invitational at the Battlefield Golf Course on Saturday and Sunday. Union, which was competing for the first time in 2022, did not record a team score as Thomas was the only Bulldog to compete at the invite.

Thomas was a model of consistency throughout the weekend, shooting 90 both days.

Aided by a birdie on the par-four fifth hole, she shot a 43 (+7) on the front-nine Saturday. It was the back-nine that was much friendlier to her Sunday, as she overcame a rough start (a +12, 48 on the front-nine) by shedding six strokes from her score over the final nine holes.

CHANEY, MEDDERS COMPETE FOR BULLDOG MEN

The Bulldog men, playing for the second time this spring, also didn't have enough players to accumulate a score, as Kedric Chaney and Jake Medders both took the links.

Chaney shot an 80 both days, coming in tied for 25 with 160. Medders took 48th with 203, shooting a 95 Sunday to improve on his opening-round score by 13 strokes.

NEXT UP FOR THE BULLDOGS

The men and women are slated to return to action on April 4 and 5, when they will travel to Lexington for the Midway Eagle Invitational.
