No. 1 Union defeats No. 3 CIU 77-75 to win AAC Tournament

Kingsport, Tenn. – The Union Bulldogs are the champions of the 2024 AAC Men's Basketball Tournament. The No. 1 seeded Bulldogs won 77-75 against No. 3 CIU on Saturday. With the win, Union has won 10 of the past 11 AAC Tournaments.

The score was close throughout the game, but the Bulldogs led by eight 74-66 with 2:42 to play. CIU managed to tie the game with 0:18 remaining, but Union's Deonte Douglas connected on a layup with 0:02 left to play. A last-second shot for CIU was no good.

Markelo Sullivan led all scorers with 24 points to go with five rebounds. Terrin Hamilton recorded 16 points and seven rebounds, while Markelle Turner tallied 13 points.

Douglas and Will Bailey each registered seven points, while Anton Mozga scored six points and Jay Falls added four.

Sullivan was named Tournament MVP, while Douglas and Turner were also named to the All-Tournament Team.

"Hey, great job," Union head coach Tim Curry said to his team in the locker room after the game. "Next step, chasing a red banner."

As winners of the AAC regular season title, the Bulldogs clinched a spot in the NAIA National Championship Tournament. The Bulldogs await the NAIA bracket release to find out where and when their next game will be played.
