The Bulldogs fall at UPike in OT

Pikeville, Ky. – The Union College men's basketball team fell short 102-94 in overtime at Pikeville on Wednesday night. The matchup featured the top two teams in the conference standings.

UPike began the game with a 9-0 run en route to leading by as many as 21 points in the first half. Union trailed 52-35 at halftime. The Bulldogs responded with an 11-0 run to begin the second half.

A jumper by Deonte Douglas with 10:39 to play gave Union its first lead of the matchup. With 2:41 remaining in regulation, a layup by Douglas gave the Bulldogs their largest lead of the game at 85-77. Pikeville rallied to force OT en route to the win.

Douglas led Union in scoring with 22 points off 10-of-14 shooting from the floor. Terrin Hamilton tallied 18 points and two blocks, while Markelo Sullivan registered 17 points and four steals. Sullivan was 5-of-10 from 3-point range.

Anton Mozga accounted for 15 points and six rebounds. Markelle Turner was one of five Bulldogs to score in double figures as he recorded 11 points. Jay Falls, Will Bailey, and Sam Conley also scored Union. The Bulldogs finished the game 13-of-31 from 3-PT range.

Union is now 11-6 (10-3 AAC) this season, while Pikeville is 14-4 (12-2 AAC). Up next for the Bulldogs is a home conference game on Saturday, Jan. 13, against Bluefield. That matchup is scheduled to begin at 4:00 p.m.
