Douglas scores 25, while Sullivan records double-double as Union wins 72-67 over CIU

Barbourville, Ky. – The Union College men's basketball team picked up a 72-67 conference win over Columbia International on Saturday. The matchup featured two of the top teams in Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) standings.

Neither team held a double-digit lead in the matchup, but Union did lead by nine with 12:45 to go in the second half. The score was tied 67-67 with 2:25 remaining in the game. The next points of the matchup were scored when Deonte Douglas connected on a 3-pointer with 0:07 to play.

Following a timeout, Douglas recorded a steal and a layup to give Union a 72-67 victory. Douglas led all scorers with 25 points, while going 9-of-13 from the floor and 3-of-3 from 3-point range.

Markelo Sullivan tallied a 14-point, 13-rebound double-double for the Bulldogs. Markelle Turner was one of three Bulldogs to score in double figures with 13 points to go along with a game-leading five assists.

Terrin Hamilton registered nine points, while Anton Mozga tallied five; Sam Conley recorded four; and Will Bailey tallied two.

Douglas registered three steals, which was tied for the most by any player in today's game. Hamilton, Conley, and Mozga each tallied two steals. The Bulldogs were 27-of-60 from the floor, while CIU was 25-of-63. Union is now on a four-game winning streak, while being 4-0 in home games this season.

The Bulldogs are now 8-4 (7-2 AAC) this season, while CIU is 8-5 (7-2 AAC). Up next for Union is a home conference game against Bryan on Tuesday, Dec. 12, at 7:30 p.m.
