Douglas, Sullivan, and Turner combine to score 55 points as Union wins 83-78 at Montreat

Montreat, NC. – The Union College men's basketball team won by five points at Montreat on Tuesday, Nov. 14, in a conference matchup.

Montreat led 30-16 with 7:57 to play in the first half, but the Bulldogs responded with a 13-0 run to cut the deficit to one. Union would take the lead with 1:52 remaining in the half via two made free throws by Jahloni Mitchell. The Cavaliers led 40-39 at halftime.

The Bulldogs outscored Montreat by six in the second half, while going 5-of-12 from 3-PT range and 15-of-17 at the free-throw line. Union won 83-78.

Markelle Turner led all players in scoring with 20 points, while the reigning Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) POTW Markelo Sullivan had another remarkable game. Sullivan recorded a 19-point, 21-rebound double-double.

Sullivan also registered four assists, two steals, and one block. Turner and Sullivan combined to go 8-of-15 from 3-point range.

Deonte Douglas tallied 16 points and three assists for the Orange and Black, while Anton Mozga also scored in double figures with 10 points. Will Bailey and Terrin Hamilton combined to score 14 points, while Mitchell and Cam Bartmann also scored for the Bulldogs.

Union outrebounded the Cavaliers 47-35. The Orange and Black were an impressive 24-of-29 at the free-throw line.

The Bulldogs are now 3-1 (3-0 AAC) this season, while Montreat is 1-3 (0-2 AAC) this season. Up next for Union is a home conference game against Reinhardt on Thursday, Nov. 16, at 7:30 p.m.
