Fifth-ranked men's basketball runs all over Milligan

BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - Just over two weeks removed from a nail-biting 95-92 win at Milligan, the Union men's basketball team made sure to avoid such dramatics in a rematch in Barbourville Wednesday.

Markelle Turner hit a 3-pointer on the opening possession and it was all Bulldogs the rest of the way, as No. 5 Union had five double-digit scorers in a 102-68 Appalachian Athletic Conference rout.

Terrin Hamilton continued the early onslaught of 3-pointers by hitting three in the span of 1 minute, 26 seconds early in the first half. Hamilton scored 15 of his game-high 23 points in the first half and hit 6-of-8 3-point attempts

After a scoreless first half, it was DJ Mercer who led the outside surge in the second, hitting 4-of-6 from 3 on his way to a career-high 16 point effort.

The Bulldogs rarely missed from wherever they shot Wednesday, going 40-of-67 from the field, 15-of-27 from 3-point range and were even a perfect 7-of-7 from the foul line.

Anton Mozga had 17 points and a team-best six rebounds, Markelo Sullivan scored 14 and Turner had 13, going over 1,900 career points in the process.

The win give Union 27 straight wins over AAC opponents, and runs their league record to 18-0. Now 20-1 overall, the Bulldogs host Truett McConnell at approximately 4 p.m. Saturday.
