The Bulldogs fall 20-12 at Bluefield

Bluefield, Va. – The Union College football team played at Bluefield on Saturday, Nov. 4, in the Bulldogs' final road game of the season.

Bluefield began the game with a 10-0 run, but the Bulldogs countered with a 10-play, 75-yard drive on the ensuing possession that was capped off by a one-yard touchdown run by Taji Jackson.

The next points of the matchup were scored by Union's defense via a safety with 5:45 to play in the first half. On the play prior to the safety, a punt by Union's Griffin Fleming went out of bounds at the Rams' one-yard line.

With 1:10 to play in the second quarter, a muffed punt by Bluefield gave Union the possession at the Bluefield 13-yard line. The drive resulted in a turnover, and the score was 10-9 Bluefield at halftime.

Each team scored a field goal in the third quarter, which made the score 17-12 Bluefield entering the fourth quarter.

With Union trailing 20-12 in the fourth quarter, a high snap by the Rams was recovered by the Bulldogs in Bluefield territory.

On 4th & 4 at the Rams' 13-yard line, an incomplete pass by Union gave Bluefield the possession with 1:10 to play in regulation. The rams ran out the clock as the Bulldogs fell 20-12.

Byron Gee led in total tackles with nine, while recording two TFLs and 1.5 sacks. Tramonte Gardner was second on the team in total tackles with seven.

Jackson and Omarion Parks each registered 20 carries. Jackson rushed for 90 yards and one TD, while Parks eclipsed 100 yards. Tony Norman led Union in receiving yards with 87 off five catches.

The Union Bulldogs are now 3-6 (2-3 AAC) this season, while Bluefield is 5-4 (3-2 AAC). Up next for the Bulldogs is a Senior Day matchup against Kentucky Christian on Saturday, Nov. 11, at 1:30 p.m.
